Tutor: Andrea McKenzie

Andrea McKenzie

Andrea’s fascination with the world of colour and texture began as a child mixing and blending in her grandmother’s exotic spice cupboard. As a teen these mad scientist experiments found expression in a lengthy journey with tie-dyeing, and later as a Waldorf school teacher where her creative propensity found a home in artistic curriculum presentation. Now as a retiree Andrea’s love of teaching manifests through creating journals of varying design with eco-printed papers.

Discovering that the natural colours of flowers, leaves, berries, herbs, seeds and organic growth of forests and gardens could be infused onto cloth and paper through a mindful process using heat, water and pressure can open up a whole new relationship with the botanical realm and its whispering secrets. By practicing respectful, ethical foraging and gathering, forests brim with expressive potential and gardens bloom with endless possibilities.

Most recently Andrea’s journals were featured in a North Vancouver art exhibition titled Paper Trails. Her work has been highlighted at such places as summer Art & Garden Tours and city organized Art Crawls. She has her home and studio in a forest cabin near Vancouver, British Columbia where she embraces organic, slow living with her husband and dog. View her creations on Instagram
