Tutor: Joy Prater
Joy trained at the Devon School of Yoga (500 hours) and affiliated with the Independent Yoga Network. She teaches gentle yoga in a style that is accessible for all, combining asana (postures), flowing exercises, and meditation, with the breath.
Each Gentle Yoga class will include postures and exercises that can be modified for each individual, depending on ability and familiarity with yoga. Her classes will usually be a mix of gentle dynamic exercises, longer held postures and deep relaxation.
“Yoga with Joy, is quite literally that! Joy creates a beautiful space and holds the class in such a way that both beginners and more advanced yogis feel at home. Her deep knowledge, gentle approach and well thought through sequences give a sense of calm and well being. I have practised with many teachers over the years and Joy’s class is the one I keep returning to time and again.”
More recently Joy has trained with Uma Dissmore-Tuli – through Yoga Campus – in Pregnancy Yoga and Mother & Baby Yoga, which has inspired a new passion for teaching women during pregnancy, birth preparation and postnatal recovery. Joy is currently expanding her knowledge and expertise in yoga as a form of therapy.
Joy now runs the beautiful yoga studio and event space, The Angel Hall, within the Bowden House community where she lives. She teaches regular yoga classes and workshops in the studio, sometimes collaborating with her talented and inspiring younger sister, Susie Ro, who lends the exquisite music to the yoga.
Since 2020 Joy has also been focusing on her vibrant YouTube yoga channel, which includes many yoga videos and a weekly live streamed yoga class, all of which are free to use and participate in.
