Tutor: Miranda Shaw

Miranda has a passion for teaching and a lifelong love of yoga.  Having been a school teacher in her life before children, more than 20 years ago she did a 2 year classical Hatha yoga training with FRYOG.  Since then she has been teaching full time.  Her personal practice and teaching style have evolved over the years, blending influences from various yoga traditions.  Her time spent in the US with renowned teachers such as Shiva Rea, the master of vinyasa flow, and Julie Gudmestad, a skilled anatomy teacher trainer, and doing yoga to live kirtan have deeply influenced her approach and inspired her to continue training in yoga therapy, pre and post natal yoga, breathwork and lots more.

Breathwork is at the core of her teaching, and she firmly believes that without a focus on healthy breathing yoga is just exercise.  She emphasises the profound impact of proper breathing on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, and shows how to harness the breath in a yoga practice for strength and flexibility, in order to let go of tension, and, most importantly, how to breathe healthily day to day.  Her classes are generally a very breath focused ‘mindful flow’, with a focus on alignment and safety.

Whether leading a dynamic flow or a nurturing, therapeutic session, she views yoga as a journey of discovery.  Her style of teaching shows students how to connect with their bodies, learning what their bodies and minds actually want and need so that they can take what they have learnt off the mat into their day to day lives.

Miranda also believes in the transformative power of music and vibration, so she enjoys using carefully chosen music to encourage her students to breathe more deeply and move more freely.  She loves leading people on a journey of mindfulness…through chanting, breath work, meditation, visualisation and other activities….showing people how much happiness and peace being more fully present can bring to our lives.

Every session with Miranda ends with a yoga nidra, or relaxation…..which Miranda believes is almost the most important part of a class.  Her aim is to send everyone on their way after a class with a relaxed, happy smile on their face.
