Tutor: Pip Jones
Pip Jones is a storyteller, mindfulness teacher and movement specialist.
After her degree in Anthropology and English at Cambridge, Pip studied Community Dance at the Laban Centre and Circus Theatre in Bristol. She then went on to devise and tour shows which integrated stilts, dance and puppetry.
With the birth of her children, she settled in Devon and taught for many years at Dartington College of Arts, specialising in bodywork, improvisation and site specific work. When Dartington relocated to Falmouth, Pip continued to teach and undertook Post Graduate research into how creativity and innovation is nurtured.
With the commute to Falmouth becoming untenable, Pip started teaching dance fitness classes in her local community. She still teaches, creating warm and encouraging spaces for people to feel and express the joy of dance and connection to others.
In her early 20’s, Pip visited a Buddhist monastery and the meditation she practiced there had a profound effect on her. Over the subsequent years she continued to practice and then in 2019/2020 took a Mindfulness Teacher Training with Breathworks. Since then she has taught many courses, both live and online, in corporate and community settings. She has subsequently also trained with the Oxford Mindfulness Foundation (Finding Peace in a Frantic World and Mindfulness in the Workplace).
In 2020, through a dear friend, Pip came across somatics in the tradition of Thomas Hanna. She found this work to be extremely powerful in releasing muscle tension and restoring the body’s natural sense of peace, ease and freedom, and decided to do a teacher training. Pip took Living Yoga’s The Thinking Body programme and is a certified Somatic Movement Coach.
Her organisation Skylarker is currently in receipt of a National Lottery Community Fund to offer accessible somatics, dance and mindfulness in her local community.
