Testimonies:
“It was a real joy to experience Shakeh’s generous teaching at La Maison Anglaise. She brings a depth of knowledge and wisdom to these ancient dances she teaches, so that each step I felt I was dancing a transmission of the sacred. Shakeh is also huge fun and a delight to be around. Her innate appreciation of life, culture and nature cannot help but inspire.” Claire Hayes, June 2024
“Shakeh has a quintessential unique way of telling us about Armenia and Armenian in a way that delights us; evoking her stories and memories, making them more vivid in the present- which touches us deeply when dancing. We experience more than dance. We experience another way of being in the world.” Vaneri Oliveira, June 2024
“From the first moment I danced traditional Armenian dances with Shakeh, I felt something very strong in my body. I felt that in those short, rhythmic steps, there was strength and softness- great precision, small is big, less is more… I loved the melody of the dances- the rhythms touched my heart from the very first time… representing a deep personal spiritual connection. It is an invitation to be faithful to the way I live my life”. Helyda Di Oliveira, June 2024
“Shakeh has an incredible, radiant, loving energy- always supportive. Her dance sessions were done gracefully, joyfully and flexibly – never presenting herself as the teacher over the students. She has a deep knowledge of Armenian dances, history, art, music, religion and the transcendent message of community – hope in spite of all tragedy and loss! I love her way of just dancing silently in the mornings in the beautiful space outdoors at La Maison Anglaise. In the evenings we danced in the very nice dancing room – occasionally in silence again. This is real Sacred Dance for me!” Christine Worm April 2024
