Tutor: Stephanie Rose
Stephanie has been a passionate circle dancer for the last forty years after first discovering this heartfelt dance form at a yoga centre near Bedford. When the leader of that group moved on in 1991, the role of teacher became hers by default, an unexpected and fortuitous turn of events. Since then, Stephanie has led several dance groups both in Cambridgeshire and, more recently, her native Herefordshire.
Besides these regular circles, Stephanie has facilitated many day workshops and residential courses, inspiring dancers with her warm and easy-going teaching style, and the creative themes around which she designs her events. She offers an annual weekend, now in its 11th year, at Hawkwood College, an independent centre for Adult Education, and is also particularly drawn to offering dance-based seasonal celebrations at various retreat centres around the UK. She has a City and Guilds certificate in Adult Teacher Training and continues her own circle dance development attending events that have taken her around the world to countries including Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Ireland, the USA, and, of course, Morocco.
There is a magic that happens when people dance together in a circle, moving as one to the varied rhythms and styles of dances from across the globe. Stephanie weaves together traditional dances taken from communities where dancing together was (and often still is!) part of every village gathering, and modern choreographies by other esteemed dancers to form her programme.
