Jane and Louise met 30 years ago as professional weavers and have since run workshops, travelled, and exhibited together. Jane lives in Sussex in the south-east of England, while Louise lives on a remote island off Orkney, Scotland. Their travels and home environments inform their weaving. When travelling, they capture the essence of each place—from the plains and deserts of Mongolia to the Nile and the Nubian people of Egypt, and the mountains of Italy. They are particularly interested in textiles from around the world and the cultures behind them. By adapting traditional techniques alongside their own individual styles, they design contemporary tapestries that incorporate a wide variety of yarns and reflect the palette of each region. With their two different lifestyles and approaches to weaving, they embrace these differences in their teaching.
